Weapons from an Ancient Realm [color] by SirInkman Weapons from an Ancient Realm [color] by SirInkman
PS painting from pencil sketch

I've been working on some weapons that convey a sort of ancient south american feel [Mayan/Aztec/Pre-Columbian] yet still have the feeling of a fantastical ancient kingdom. Here are the color versions. Enjoy. :)
Here's the pencil sketch...

These turned out nicely!  I love the hilt design of the fourth one, but the third weapon is just a work of art.  Only the most sophisticated and well-heeled barbarian would appreciate such a beautiful killing stick. :)

Yeah, that third one is a brute.

I love these, especially the tanto style broad sword and the clean lines of the bearded axe.

Thanks again Jeff. Ya know, it seems like most people don't favor axes.
I'm glad you appreciate that axe. I was pleased with how it turned out. :)

WELL; you succeeded at your intent, very much so even, and I think this is a very becoming way to present these concepts.
Great job!

Thanks Annemie. :D
Do you have a particular one you like best?

I very much like the functional design of the second one, but the third is unlike anything I've seen yet, and it does look like it can cause some serious harm.

Yeah for all it's worth, if I HAD to choose, I'd pick that one.

Excellent. :D
I'm glad you like that one. It was my favorite design of these.
Yeah, i think the word to describe it would be butchery. :)

Hehe, yup.
It is a bit reminiscent of a cleaver, right?

Yeah, I guess it is.
The first thing I started with was the handle which is the reverse of normal for me.
It evolved over 3 iterations. Originally it was a more pointy thing.
I think the change came in when I did the square scrolling metal of the back side.
That led me to the final shape of the blade.
I have a few others done in this style but not all are as successful in their rendition as this one.

Hmm, I noticed that question on your previous sketches, I think if I had to enter the arena and pick one it would probably be second from the right - looks like it could do a lot of damage but has a very practical, user friendy handle.

Yeah, that one would cause some awful damage I think. ;)
The bulbous end of the handle should keep your hand from slipping.

I bought an axe not long ago (for logs, not fighting!) with a handle shaped very smilarly, it does indeed help.
